Baku Human Rights Club (BHRC) Public Union evaluated the appeal received and decided to join the defense of the rights of citizen Suleymanov Ilkin Ibrahim oglu.
Ilkin Suleymanov, a resident of Dondar Gushchu village, Tovuz district, is accused of killing 10-year-old Guliyeva Narmin Sharif gizi, a resident of the same village. Ilkin Suleymanov is charged under Articles 120.2.9 (murder of a person who is obviously helpless for the guilty person) and 145.2.3 (illegal deprivation of liberty against a minor) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Suleymanov was detained on 06.01.2020, he was imprisoned by the Tovuz District Court on 11.01.2020, his prison term was extended by the decision of the Nasimi District Court dated 18.03.2020 until July 28, 2020.
The BHRC has carefully studied the appeal, the documents attached to it, the decisions on the choice of the pre-trial detention and the extension of the detention term, the progress of the investigation so far, and the arguments of the defense. Following the research, the BHRC decided to join the defense of Suleymanov’s rights, as there were serious grounds to believe that he had been charged with a crime he had not committed.
The BHRC plans to send appeals to the relevant agencies to bring the identified points to the attention of law enforcement agencies, to support possible steps in the legal field, and to keep this case in the public eye. The public will be regularly informed about the steps to be taken and the results.
